Stephenie Meyer is currently number one on the poll for Time's list of most influential people this past year. Oh dear God. Please click on the link above and give people below her a fighting chance—Twilight fans seem to have undertaken the task to get her to the top, and it's just...*facepalms repeatedly* No. Wrong. It's Harry Potter: Best Animated Independent Foreign Language Documentary all over again. Only worse.

Go ahead, give Meyer the '1' she deserves. *nudges*

Also, here are some ideas of people you may want to give high ratings to:
  • Stephen Colbert (naturally);
  • Jon Stewart (obviously *fangirls*);
  • Steve Jobs, Apple CEO (because I adore him, and I'm currently minutes away from his house);
  • Bono (because I had to);
  • Jimbo Wales, creator of Wikipedia (because you all know I secretly have an altar at home where I make daily sacrifices to him);
  • Al Gore (because he's cool).

    There are several other in/famous people, of course, from Amy Winehouse to Nelson Mandela. Take your pick. But *fumes* not Stephenie Meyer. Edit: Oh look, people agree with me *grins*

    Speaking of which, I read the Twilight series this week. It was every bit as awful and cringe-worthy as everyone told me it would be, and also highly entertaining. At least now I can follow (and contribute to) the constant debates at UR with [livejournal.com profile] _thirty2flavors, [livejournal.com profile] inksplotched, [livejournal.com profile] callmepatsy and others.

    In my last post, I asked for top 5 lists; I will try to post some of them in every post from now on.

    Five ships and the songs I associate with them

    5. Severus/Lily - Girl, The Beatles*

    I don't know why this song is the first one that comes to mind when I think of Lily/Snape, but it is. The lyrics don't even make sense, but there you go. Eleanor Rigby is another song that makes me think of Severus, but that makes even less sense. Oddly enough, Cheap Trick's I Want You to Want Me and Counting Crows' Colorblind have just occurred to me, too. Hmm.

    4. Sirius/Lily - Almost, Bowling for Soup

    Waaay back in the day, I wrote a Sirius/Lily fic entitled 'Almost.' This has little to do with the song, actually, it just occurred to me now—but in any case, Sirius/Lily is a pairing I'm rather fond of, when it's done right. I can definitely see Lily almost having something with Sirius, if only because he was so similar to James. (Funny, I can see Lily/Sirius easily, but Remus/James sounds odd. Don't know why.)

    3. Remus/Sirius - Bent for You, Alanis Morissette

    Angel and I, who roleplayed Sirius and Remus (respectively) in our letter project, have an old inside joke with this song, which reminds me very, very much of her Sirius' behaviour. This is one of the songs that never ceases to make me smirk smile when iTunes' randomness decides to pick it. Two other songs for R/S would be Foo Fighters' Best of You and Jet's Look What You've Done, but not even I fully understand why. (And no, [livejournal.com profile] neverwiser, a song like The Corrs' I Never Loved You Anyway doesn't make the list. *grins*)

    2. Lily/James - Hopelessly Addicted, The Corrs Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows

    Jesus, there are so many songs that make me think of L/J! This was just the first one that came to mind; other options would be Bowling for Soup's The Bitch Song, Daniel Massey's She Loves Me, Dashboard Confessional's As Lovers Go, Dave Matthews' Band's The Space Between, The Postal Service's Nothing Better, Alanis' Uninvited, Peter Gabriel's Here Comes the Flood, U2's A Man and A Woman, In a Little While and All I Want Is You, Carly Simon's You're So Vain... and of course, even the Hercules song I Won't Say (I'm in Love). Ah, anyway, the list goes on. I picked Accidentally in Love because... I don't know, something about its cheerfulness makes me think of seventh-year Lily/James. Plus, the lyrics are adorable.

    1. Albus/Gellert - Losing My Religion, R.E.M.

    Something about this song and its anger, frustration and bitterness just...gets to me, like few other songs do. And of course the lyrics are perfect for A/G. So yes. And oh, Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head is also a strangely appropriate Albus/Gellert song. Also, the Beatles' Revolution*. *snorts* Only not so much.

    *[note: I uploaded the Across the Universe version, because for some reason I don't have the original. *facepalm*]

    So... that ended up being ridiculously long. Plus, it took me a while to upload all the songs, so I won't do any more top 5 lists tonight. I promise the next ones will be briefer *laughs* And oh look, in the time it took me to finish this post, Rain got the #1 spot from Meyer, by a small margin. This probably isn't cause for celebration, though *grins*

    [livejournal.com profile] moon_dancing arrives tomorrow! *bounces*

    ETA, April 14th Stephen Colbert is #1, and Jon Stewart is #2! Smeyer's been kicked to the 39th spot. Brilliant.

    Even though I enjoyed the Twilight series, I cannot fathom how on earth Meyer got to that list. Has the world gone mad?

    That was a great top five. Now I'm curious about that Sirius/Lily fic you wrote. Is it posted somewhere?

    *hugs*

    *is looking at the list and not procrastinating whatsoever*

    I have never heard of Rain. Perez Hilton pisses me off. It amuses me that Obama is three positions before Hilary. Some of these names are just...*sighs*

    We live in a sad world.

    Oh, Remus. Your denial that you never loved me makes me sure that you never loved me, making me wish that I never loved you and therefore, for the good of our sanity, let's end this once and for all.

    (For two weeks, 'till we get bored or frustrated.)

    How does In a Little While makes sense when talking about Lily and James?

    ... It would make sense if you were talking about Severus/Lily

    Personally, I find the Harry Potter: Best Animated Independent Foreign Language Documentary one of the highlights of our fandom, comparable to the uncancelling of Jericho and as amusing as the comma incident of 2005.

    And why isn't Jo there? If Jo said stop eating beef, we would. Especially for some nice exposition about the sexualities of the Marauders.

    Oh, Smeyer. So much fail.

    I <3 [livejournal.com profile] tw_wallofshame though, hahaha. Veruca Salt indeed.

    Also? Uninvite was like, the working title of Silly Love Songs waaaay back when, and in fact the giant 200-some-od page word document is, in fact, called uninvited.doc.

    "Accidentally in Love" Is a good L/J song. I like "Head Over Feet" by Alanis Morisette. And props for the "I Won't Say (I'm In Love)" because it's so true and such a good song!

    Losing My Religion is a good pick too. Nice.

    UGH-- NO to Stephenie Meyer being anywhere within the vicinity of consideration for the list. A big yes and amen to everyone on your mini-list, though!

    WTF. BRITNEY SPEARS AND PEREZ HILTON IN THE TOP 5? I'd rather have Stephenie Meyer, really.

    Our president. OMFFFFG. She's horrible. I CANNOT believe this. She seems to be dragging our country to the ground.

    I'm sad, now.

    'kay so it's clear that all the voters this year are pre-teen girls who are spamming the polls to vote over and over again for a) their favorite Korean popstar or b) their favorite pre-teen author.

    Lame. How can they be ahead of people like Gore and Jobs?
