christycorr: Scotty (Star Trek XI) (So exciting!)
So! I saw DH2 last night with several fandom friends, including [personal profile] oxymora. It was very nostalgic, and there were, oh my God, so many screaming fangirls squealing every time Neville/Draco/Snape/the twins/whoever showed up on screen. Also, whenever something even remotely adorable happened. Or something even slightly badass. They were screaming so loudly that I couldn't even hear Molly's most infamous line. *laughs*

Verdict: I really liked the movie! It's not particularly surprising, considering I was rather fond of DH1 as well.

Spoilers, sweetie. )
christycorr: Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Bunnies.)
Wow. Um. It's been a while! I aten't dead, as Granny Weatherwax would put it. How are you all? :D I've been spending most of my time on Twitter and Facebook, and LJ/DW ended up really neglected, poor things. Also, I've been (re)watching Buffy and Angel and Bones nonstop for weeks and somehow I'm still not sick of David Boreanaz's face. Mysteries of the universe.

(I feel like I should mention this in no way constitutes a hardcore Buffy/Angel shipping manifesto. I adore Spike. I wish he and Buffy could shag live happily ever after, only not really, because that would take half the fun out of the ship.)

In old news—X-Men: First Class was all kinds of awesome! I've already read a fair deal of fanfiction in the past month, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sweetcherrytree's linkage and the kink memes, but if you have any links, feel free to share!

And how awesomely awesome was The Doctor's Wife? Omg. I still can't get over it. Oh, Neil Gaiman.

In related news, I've added George R. R. Martin to the list of authors I fangirl shamelessly. July 12 can't come soon enough! And Game of Thrones season 2 can't, either. *grumbles* *shakes fist* *hates HBO so much — except for the hating bit, 'cause God, that show is brilliant*

I've also created a tumblr today—not sure why, really, apart from the fact that it makes following all my favourite tumblrs a great deal easier. Drop me a line if you have an account there; I'll be happy to follow you! *grins*

In far more important news, [personal profile] oxymora's getting to Brazil from Germany! TODAY! She'll be here for the Deathly Hallows premiere and everything! Eeeeee! *EXCITED*
christycorr: Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Bunnies.)
First of all, thank you for writing this fic! Don't worry—I'll be thrilled with whatever you choose to write ♥

I'll ramble a little about what I like in fics and what I meant when I picked these fandoms in case you need clarification or whatever, but feel free to ignore this if you prefer to do your own thing! :D

So, about those prompts. )

...Yay Yuletide! \o/
christycorr: Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Bunnies.)
So I was talking to a friend of mine about Harry Potter. He's a huge fan of the books and was searching YouTube for a video of McGonagall in PS for some reason. And then he was shocked to see that there are hundreds of "fanvids" that "seem to be implying that Dumbledore and McGonagall were involved, what the hell?" (It wasn't A/G ship rage at all, he was just surprised that anyone would bother shipping Albus, who is his favourite character and probably asexual in his mind, with anyone.)

Needless to say, I was very amused, explained all about fandom, mentioned my shipping preferences and who truly obscure HP ships are about, and vowed to send him links to a couple of fics so that he could see that not all fandom-ers are as "random" as those wacky Albus/Minerva shippers. *snorts* And then I...had no idea what to send. No shipfic, obviously, unless it's a canon ship; I guess genfic is the best option. Maybe humor? I don't know. I haven't really read Harry Potter fic in what feels like decades. Especially not-fanonshipfic. Um.

Help? :D
You know, these past few months, I've been mostly away from the internet in general, and I was FINE. Really. I've been pretty happy! And I was busy with RL and I let my LJ paid account expire and everything! I was reading maybe a couple of recs per week, if that, and I let myself slowly but inexorably drift away from fandom—even though I did miss it, squeefests, wanks and all. I still kept in touch with several of you. Sure, I still adore Star Trek; I still watch Doctor Who; the Deathly Hallows trailer and posters made me nostalgic; I'm still the same geek, after all, and I still love the same things. I just didn't devote as much time to fandom as I used to. And then. And then I saw Inception. (Twice.)

FUCK YOU, CHRISTOPHER NOLAN. D:

What really fucked me over was that I watched the BBC miniseries Sherlock as soon as it aired, and after that, keeping an eye out for Sherlock fanfiction was instinctive. (Blame residual RDJ!love. And, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch. ♥) So while I was at it—I naïvely thought—I might as well check out the Inception fandom.

Big mistake.

It seems like every author I've ever read or bookmarked is writing fic for either fandom. Or both.

AND IT'S ALL SO AWESOME, YOU GUYS. I love Sherlock well enough, but Inception has so much good fic! And so much good meta! And I'm so in love with this fandom—I can't believe I'm dying to find time to dedicate to fanfiction again. The fact that I'll never not think of JGL as the 15-year-old in 10 Things About You isn't even an issue. Oh, God.

I'm so, so fucked. :DDD
*bounces*!

[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2 made a podfic of my Kings fic Sacrifice! Eee, this is so unbelievably awesome ♥ ♥ She did a brilliant job! Download the mp3 here. (44.87 MB)

In other news, I'm not one for episode reaction posts, but I'm totally in love with the Eleventh Doctor and Amelia Pond—I adored ickle!Amelia, and the food-tasting, and Liz Ten, and the Smilers, and the moral dilemma; and God, I so did not expect to grow fond of a new Doctor this quickly—even if 503 was pretty boring. But anyway, it's Daleks, again, and "Would you like some tea?" is second only to "You are better at dying!" (well, and arguably "You would make a good Dalek") in the Best Dalek Lines Ever department. Thank you for not disappointing, Moffat, and it's SO GREAT to have new episodes every week that I haven't quite stopped flailing yet :DDD
I signed up for two [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin fics, because I'm SUICIDAL. Wtf, self? I barely read Merlin fic anymore! FML.

Here's a meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] _thirty2flavors, because it's 10 PM and I'm bored in class, and no one should be allowed to have Commercial Law class at 10 PM on a Friday.

Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.

Do your worst! :D
christycorr: Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who) (This is how I roll.)
I'm back in Brazil! All that travelling seriously hindered my usual watching-all-Oscar-movies thing, so alas there are a couple this year that I didn't see. My favourite movies, hands down, were Inglourious Basterds and A Single Man. I was also rather fond of An Education and District 9—and of course, Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes, but that goes without saying.

Main categories predictions, for the record )

I'm watching the red carpet now with [livejournal.com profile] keshii, her mother, [livejournal.com profile] rolepop, his boyfriend, [livejournal.com profile] wendybarrie_, and her ex-boyfriend. :D I'll start liveblogging as usual in about half an hour, when the awards ceremony starts.

Disclaimer: I just pulled two all-nighters in a row; I'm kind of jet-lagged, and I have class in ten hours, so that's another all-nighter waiting to happen, yay! I'm sort of high on Red Bull, too. I apologise in advance for typos and accidental hyperness.

On to the liveblogging!

Liveblogging )

To sum it up: The Hurt Locker won the night, with six Oscars; Avatar got only three, all extremely well-deserved. Excellent!
christycorr: Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) (True story.)
I'm in Rome! I've been enjoying the city a great deal. It's lovely, even if the number of Ancient Roman buildings destroyed and commandeered by the Catholic Church makes me want to die inside more often than not. It's not anti-Christian animosity, see—it's just, I'm a really fangirly Republican Rome fangirl, and GAH WHY DIAFF UGH.

...Ahem. I've also been to London and Paris recently, and it was awesome! [livejournal.com profile] wendybarrie_ and I met [personal profile] oxymora in Paris, and we'll see her again in Venice this weekend, yay! On the less yay-worthy side of things, we were robbed in the train, and some douche took all our money while we slept. Also, some random perv cornered us in the Paris subway—anyway, not good.

Buuut enough RL babbling! Sayeth [personal profile] afterthree:

By doing this in my own journal instead of in [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42's comments I'm probably turning this into a meme, but it's kind of awesome and I think deserving of meme status.

The idea is that we all watch different shows, even when we all watch the same ones. (...) What shows within shows have you watched?

Here's what I've been watching lately, in no particular order:

- The Oh My God, Neal/Peter/Elizabeth Is So Canon Show.

- The David Tennant Is Surprisingly Endearing When Babbling Like A Madman Show.

- The Nathan Fillion Fillions Around For Forty Minutes A Week, Oh And Incidentally Beckett Is Also Very Badass Show.

- The Needs Moar Misha Collins Show The Spot The Episode Bits That Will Make Fangirls Go Nuts, Kill Things, Die Of Embarrassment, And/Or Write Shittons of Fanfiction Show. (I love this one.)

- The One Where Matt Bomer Speaks Klingon The One Where Jayne Cobb Is An NSA Agent ...The Brandon Routh Is SO PRETTY Show. Because he iiiiis. ♥ WHERE'S THE FIC, FANDOM.

- The Most Fucked Up Protagonist In Television Nowadays, Who May Just Be One Of My Favourite Characters Ever Show. Alternatively: The Michael C. Hall Is God, And Also Creepy As Fuck Show.

- The Ben Linus Is A Magnificent Bastard and wait, what? WTF IS GOING ON? Show, which I just resumed watching last week. I still haven't finished season four, but I plan to soon!

- The I'm Trying Really Hard To Be A Good Quinto Fangirl And Keep Watching Just For Sylar, But YAWN! Show.

- The Topher!Victor Show. There were a lot of things I loved about it (The Most Thought-Provoking Premise In A While Show could work, too), but really. Topher!Victor. I mean my God. Enver Gjokaj is a genius.

- The Barney Stinson Is Awesome, If A Tad Too Repetitive, But That's Mostly Still Somewhat Okay Show. - It's also been the Wow, Robin Scherbatsky Is Such A BAMF Show, but, you know, amen to this fandomsecret. :(

- The Tried Too Hard To Be Ocean's Eleven And Failed, But That's Okay Because There's Always Hardison, Eliot and Parker To Awesome Things Up Show.

Jack & Bobby was a pretty great TV show that aired in 2004. It only lasted for one season, and it's pretty difficult to find online—it took me weeks to download it via torrent (but if you're in the US, you can watch it on the WB's website for free), so I decided to upload the files so I could pimp it out here.

Jack & Bobby posterFrom Wikipedia: "It featured two brothers, one of whom was destined to become President of the United States, serving from 2041 to 2049. (...) The show followed the lives of teenaged Jack and Bobby McCallister as they went to high school and generally matured. Much conflict was generated between the boys and their mother, Grace, who was both domineering and unreliable. The main storyline was paralleled by a series of interviews with figures associated with the McCallister presidency, who spoke of events from the president's later life."

The series features: Logan Lerman (who plays the titular character in the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians movies, woot! He's adorable!) and the very pretty Matt Long as the two brothers in question; Christine Lahti as their mother; and a supporting cast including Jessica Paré, Bradley Cooper and John Slattery.

I've posted several Yuletide recs here. There are some others in my Delicious, most not yet updated with the authors' names, which were revealed last week.

The two fics I wrote were:

[Kings] Sacrifice (Jack/David, Michelle/David; 8,034 words)

Summary: "Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you; Saul my father also knows this." (1 Samuel 23:17, RSV)

(Because apparently it's not dorkish enough to have a Bible verse as your summary for a Kings fic—you have to indicate what translation you got it from. Right. Way to go, self.)

[Mr. and Mrs. Smith] A Little Less Conversation (John/Jane; 5,305 words)

Summary: The irony was that Mr. and Mrs. Smith were completely incompatible.

Summary shamelessly, shamelessly sort of stolen from an old fic by [livejournal.com profile] firstlightofeos. With permission, of course. *grins*

I'm off to London with [livejournal.com profile] wendybarrie_ on Monday! Whoo!

Meanwhile, I'm marathoning Stargate Atlantis like a madwoman. (I know, I know, five years too late.) If any of you are in the fandom, would you happen to have any recs? I've read astonishingly few SGA fics—they're what convinced me to watch in the first place—and I'm craving some like you wouldn't believe.
christycorr: Dash (The Incredibles) (*Squee!*)
I couldn't care less about Christmas itself, but this year's Yuletide was all kinds of exciting!

My Yulegoat wrote me a time to refrain from embracing, a lovely Kings futurefic featuring pining!Jack and jaded!David—what more could I possibly want? Thank you so much, mystery author! ♥

I have a bazillion windows open with all the fics and links I ignored over the past few days while hiding under my Yuletide-shaped rock—but I'm I won't get to touch them any time soon because NEW DOCTOR WHO OMG.

While (VERY IMPATIENTLY) waiting for my download to finish, I shall read more Yuletide fics. I doubt I'll post recs here on LJ, but if you have Twitter, check out @ficrecs; I'll probably update it pretty frequently over the next few days!
christycorr: Fangirls (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) (Fan.)
[livejournal.com profile] wendybarrie_ asked me to upload this, so in case anyone else wants it—

In case you don't know what this is: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is Joss Whedon's (Buffy, Firefly, Dollhouse) brainchild, written and filmed during the Writers' Guild 2007-8 strike. It's a supervillain's video blog. It's a musical. Said supervillain—Dr. Horrible himself—is played by the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother's Barney Stinson). His nemesis, Captain Hammer, is the awesome Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly, Buffy); the girl Dr. Horrible loves from a distance is none other than Felicia Day, geek muse extraordinaire (Buffy, The Guild).

Seriously. It's awesome.

So! If you've lived under an internet rock for the past couple of years, hurry along and watch the 45-minute micro-series by downloading the file below, or on YouTube.

Downloads:

Awesomely enough, the Dr. Horrible DVD's commentary track is also a musical, sung by the writers and the cast. It may actually, at times, be slightly more brilliant than Dr. Horrible itself.

Google Wave

christycorr: APO (Alias) (Authorised personnel only.)
All right, so I forgot to post about Google Wave here. I have a shitload of invites (like, 50+, so that should be enough for you lot :D) if anyone's interested. Comments are screened; just leave your email here and I'll send you one.

I'm christycorr@googlewave there too, so if you're around, add me—group Waves are always fun!

Edit: What is Google Wave? Okay, here's a nice little video explaining what Wave is. And here's a Lifehacker post explaining it in more detail, with screenshots.

Google Wave is basically Google acknowledging that e-mailing has become too formal and bulky. They're trying to reinvent e-mails. If you use Wave for nothing other than communication with a single person at a time, it's a glorified IMing interface (that runs in your browser) where you can see the other person's typing in real time, drag and drop attachments, use indentation to maintain parallel conversations, and embed videos, images & Google searches. There are other gadgets around (games and whatnot), but these are the basic features. If you use it to chat with a bunch of people, it's—well, it's pretty much the same thing, but with a lot of people involved, it's much more entertaining! :D

It's great for group activities and collaborations of all kinds. I'd guess it would make a very interesting tool for beta-ing fics, too.

Plus, you know, they got the name from Firefly. Which is awesome. ♥
christycorr: APO (Alias) (Authorised personnel only.)
Whoo! Archive of Our Own is finally in open beta stage! Click here to request an invitation; you should get it soon-ish, depending on how long the queue's become by the time you sign up.

You know the deal: all fandoms, all pairings, shiny open-source-ness, the works. :D
Star Trek XI fic rec: So Wise We Grow, [livejournal.com profile] captanddeastar's [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang fic (eventual Kirk/Spockm 81,000 words, R). It's kid!fic—Spock finds himself having to parent, with Kirk's help, the son T'Pring left behind—and it's all kinds of adorable.

So! Christmas cards! (Again, not hand-made, because I fail at arts-and-crafts-ness.) Drop me a note if you want one, and I'll do my best to mail them at some point before December 25th.

[Note to newcomers: I've yet to manage to meet this deadline. Extrapolating from my last few years' Christmas-card-sending attempts, I'd say you're likely to receive your card in mid-January. I apologise in advance.]

Comments are screened.

We've had consistent 100F+ weather for the past few days, and I am melting. MELTING. Weather gods, I am so displeased. My computer's overheating so much it's uncomfortable to type. Ugh.

Yuletide sign-ups are now open! I haven't decided which fandoms I'll pick, but go volunteer! Also, UR.org's yearly Christmas Fic Exchange has just opened sign-ups, too. *nudges* How about some HP fic nostalgia, eh? Go join! ♥

Meme!

Post a list of 10 television shows you watch or have watched. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each show. When someone guesses your favourite character, bold the title. When guessed, tell us why you like that character.

Here you go:

1. Doctor Who
2. How I Met Your Mother
3. Six Feet Under
4. Merlin
5. Firefly
6. Buffy
7. Numb3rs
8. Chuck
9. Leverage
10. True Blood

I'd offer shows like Castle, Alias, Dexter, Dollhouse, Rome, Boston Legal, Gilmore Girls, House, Scrubs, Supernatural, Pushing Daisies, Star Trek (TOS) and Heroes as options, but my favourite characters in each and every one are so obvious (and obviously awesome) that really, it's kind of pointless.

Star Trek XI fic rec: [livejournal.com profile] waldorph's √π233/hy7 series. Don't let the Math-y name scare you off! It starts off with an AU loosely based on the movie Good Will Hunting, in which Jim is dragged to Starfleet Academy after Spock finds out he's a bit of a Maths wiz kid, but it's so much more than that—every one-shot that followed is narrated from the point of view of a different character (Winona, Uhura, Sam, T'Pring, Sulu, Frank, Sarek, etc.), following his or her life in that 'verse. Most of them can be read as stand-alones, if Kirk/Spock isn't your thing. I'm especially fond of the T'Pring one-shot.

Also, I turn 22 today. Yay for getting old! And happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] keshi_t, who is exactly one year and 36 hours older than me :D
christycorr: Richard Castle (Castle) (*^^*)
All right, so I fail at updating LJ! Damn you, Twitter. I went to a U2 concert in Tampa with [livejournal.com profile] firstlightofeos and [personal profile] lu a couple of weeks ago, and it was brilliant. I went to New York right after that, where I bought far more DVDs and assorted geekeries than I ought to and ate really, really good Chinese takeout. I totally fell in love with the city. ♥ And I bought a new MacBook Pro! It is gorgeous. I've just finished setting her up to my satisfaction today. Her name is River. (After River Tam, obviously, not River Song. And damn you for even considering that possibility, [personal profile] oxymora.)

TV-related rambling ahead! But first, tell me something. [LJ poll]

vague spoilers for Glee, Dollhouse and Merlin )

Three TV shows I'm watching and enjoying—with download links, because everyone knows I'm a pimp at heart:
  • Castle: Nathan Fillion playing the part of a Fillion-y mystery writer who helps solve crimes; what's not to love? I'm enjoying season 2 even more than I did season 1, and I'm happily waiting for my copy of Richard Castle's Heat Wave to arrive. Here's a YouTube promo featuring Fillion being awesome and geeky. Download the Castle pilot in .avi format here.

  • FlashForward: the premise is interesting—the entire world blanked out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, causing massive casualties, and during that time everyone caught a glimpse of what their lives would be like six months from now. The main character saw himself investigating the blackouts, so he begins investigating; it's all very wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey. Also: there's John Cho! And Jack Davenport! YouTube promo link. Download the FlashForward pilot in .avi format here. (Hulu link.)

  • White Collar: I was excited to see Chuck's Matthew Bomer (Bryce Larkin) in a new show; it just premiered two days ago, and it didn't disappoint. [Incidentally, if you aren't watching Chuck, why the hell aren't you watching Chuck?] Bomer plays a con artist who helps investigate white collar crimes to keep himself out of jail, à la Catch Me If You Can. It's entertaining! Check out the YouTube promo, and download the first episode here in .avi format (or watch on Hulu).

  • I'm also watching, with varying degrees of dedication, enthusiasm and caught-up-ness: Dexter, Fringe, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Lie to Me, Numb3rs, Criminal Minds, Stargate: Universe, Supernatural and The Mentalist. I have a terrible case of television ADD—I rarely remember/want to watch shows' new episodes every week—so everything always piles up. *guilty look at Heroes, Criminal Minds and Fringe* *headdesk*
    Title: Moment of Surrender
    Author: christycorr
Film prompt: Imagine Me & You
    Pairings: Arthur/Gwen, Arthur/Merlin, Gwen/Lancelot
    Rating: PG
    Word count: ~16,000
Summary: "Getting married wasn't supposed to change anything."
    Warning: implied adultery
Story notes: beta-ed by [personal profile] firstlightofeos, title by U2.

On the day of their only son’s wedding, Uther and Igraine welcomed the bride into the family with open arms—well, the Pendragon equivalent thereof. )
I'm going to Tampa to see a U2 gig with [livejournal.com profile] firstlightofeos and [personal profile] lu in two weeks! I'll spend the weekend there, and then I'm off to New York for a week.

But! I have a) no idea what I'll do there and b) no hotel booked. I fail at travel planning, apparently.

So, er. New Yorkers? I'd really appreciate a tip or two as to what I could do and the general area I should stick to, hotel-searching-wise. Help me, o lovely flist, you're my only hope! :D
