Dr. Horrible (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
I haven't seen any international news blogs talking about this ([livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt has a post here, Change.org has a petition in Portuguese here), but the Brazilian version of Big Brother showed a drunk, unconscious girl being raped. Live on television. While the support/filming crew stood by and did nothing. Millions of people watched it. The show host, while narrating the previous night's highlights, showed the scene with the comment, "Love is beautiful." I don't watch the show, and I'm not even in Brazil at the moment, but I just...what. WHAT.

My Facebook timeline has several people extremely angry at the network, for excellent reasons, but then there are always those fuckers who go "Oh, but she shouldn't have drunk."

I just...really really hate humanity right now.

Fuck.

Yuletide!

Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)
Happy holidays, everyone!

I'm in Dublin with [livejournal.com profile] wendybarrie_ at the moment, marathoning Christmas-themed TV episodes from all sorts of defunct shows in my hotel room while reading Yuletide fics—it's by far the least complicated and headachy holiday season I've ever experienced, and I love it.

GUYS. I just got an amazing fic for Yuletide—I'm so happy! The fandom is The Three Musketeers, a book I've adored since I was a kid. It's Athos-centric angst, and it's fantastic ♥ Check it out!

My prompter liked her gift fic, too, so yay! :DD

I've been spamming Yuletide recs over at @ficrecs, incidentally; there's so much good stuff this year!

Also, LiveJournal's at it again, huh? There must be so much good fic lost with this new comment deletion spree D: Goddamn it. Thank goodness for Pinboard archiving, I guess. *sighs*

Adventskalender

Dash (The Incredibles)
Roommate and I are in Bamberg, Germany, taking up loads of space at [personal profile] oxymoron's house! :DD It's been insanely fun to take part in all the holiday cheer going on around here—I honestly had no idea people could get this Christmassy. It's awesome :D I love Christmas, but I dislike having to spend it with my family, so this trip has been all kinds of perfect.

(Plus it's WINTER. You guys, it's a thing of beauty to leave the stifling heat of Rio's summer to feel actual cold, you have no idea.)

We're off to Ireland from here, and then in January it's the UK and France. If anyone's around here somewhere and wants to say hello, drop me a line!

Dear Yulegoat,

Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)
Thank you so much for participating in this year's Yuletide! I hope you didn't hate my requests on sight—rest assured I'll adore anything you write based on the characters I asked for. I'm not hard to please, promise :D

So, in general:

I adore: good characterisation, AUs of any kind (and crossovers! Love those!), excessive UST, witty banter, clever characters actually being clever, complex plots, sarcasm, open relationships and/or interesting poly dynamics, awesome female characters, geeky references of any kind, drunkenness, domesticity, adultery and kidfic. [you can find fics I love at my pinboard account, if you wish]

I really, really dislike: the word "lover" (seriously, I cannot stress this enough), "making love," "cum," character bashing, graphic non-con. I'm also not a big fan of incest.

If you want to write any of these as an AU or a crossover, I'll absolutely love it ♥

Now, on to the specific prompts: )

I know very well that optional details are optional, Mystery Writer, and once again, rest assured that I'll greatly enjoy your fic, no matter what you choose to write! Feel free to depart from my requests if a stray plot bunny leads you astray—I won't mind one bit! :D

Once again, thank you so much for this! ♥ ♥

Dear Sailor

Fangirls (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
Dear Sailor,

Hi! First of all, thank you so much for writing this for me. This is my first year taking part in [community profile] 3_ships, and I'm very excited!

In case you want to know more about my likes and dislikes, here's a list to guide you:

These are a few of my favourite things: AUs of any kind (and crossovers), open relationships and/or interesting poly dynamics, excessive UST, witty banter, clever characters actually being clever, sarcasm, awesome female characters, geeky references of any kind, drunkenness, domesticity, adultery, kidfic, and, in the case of XMFC, telepathy and characters using their powers irresponsibly/casually.

Things I really, really dislike: "lover," "making love," "cum," character bashing, graphic non-con.

If you want, you can browse my pinboard to check out the kind of fics I enjoy the most.

Feel free to leave an anon comment here (or send my friend [livejournal.com profile] firstlightofeos a message, if that suits you better) if you have anything to ask! :D

And once again, thank you so, so much! ♥

RIP Steve Jobs

Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)
The internet's all over this—every tech site worth its salt has a huge obituary for Steve Jobs, and a shitload of people are mourning, be it for his work at Apple, or Pixar, or his status as an innovator, or just as a human being a lot of people admired.

I haven't got much to say on the subject, but I made the switch to Apple at a point in my life where everything about me changed—my outlook on life, my attitude towards school, my friends, my apartment, my reading habits, my sexual orientation, my religion, everything. Sure, Apple's marketing is just that good and basically every Macmaniac loves to gush about how it's more than a brand, and I don't know about the others, but—to me, it really, really is.

Apple is a symbol of a lot I grew to love, and of how far I've come as a person since I was a young didn't-know-better PC user. Apple is my first lasting friendships; the first time I fell in love; my first roommates. Apple is Harry Potter, and alcohol, and cigarettes, and cardplaying all-nighters. Apple is growing up, and learning, and loving.

So...thank you, Steve. Rest in peace ♥

Yet another Delicious post

Dr. Horrible (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
I know I'm barely around anymore—you can thank real life and Tumblr for that—but nevertheless, here's another post about the whole AVOS/Delicious, fiasco. Basically: goddamn, Delicious.

Anyone who knows how fastidious I am about tagging can easily imagine how much these shenanigans annoyed me. Unlike last time, I'm prepared to admit that Delicious won't be usable forever, and while I'm positive at least some of the changes will be fixed or reversed, I'm not optimistic.

Since Diigo is not really an option, I'm basically left with Pinboard as my best alternative. So I've registered! (There's basically nothing there, because Delicious' export feature isn't working, unsurprisingly.) Let me know if any of you has a Pinboard account—since I've lost my Del network, I really need new people to subscribe to! *sadface*

...But seriously, AVOS, what the fuck? *sighs*

(In unrelated news: I've started working! The work environment kind of sucks, but hey, I need this internship to graduate, so here I am.)

Pottermore

Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
I wasn't all that interested in Pottermore—I mean, I wanted to check it out and all, but it didn't seem all that mind-blowing. But now there's a scavenger hunt and fandom is exploding and...I've succumbed.

I'm now clutching my copy of Philosopher's Stone like a safety blanket, all

MAGIC QUILL. GIMME.

In conclusion: damn you, JKR.

Mandatory DH2 post is mandatory.

Scotty (Star Trek XI)
So! I saw DH2 last night with several fandom friends, including [personal profile] oxymoron. It was very nostalgic, and there were, oh my God, so many screaming fangirls squealing every time Neville/Draco/Snape/the twins/whoever showed up on screen. Also, whenever something even remotely adorable happened. Or something even slightly badass. They were screaming so loudly that I couldn't even hear Molly's most infamous line. *laughs*

Verdict: I really liked the movie! It's not particularly surprising, considering I was rather fond of DH1 as well.

Spoilers, sweetie. )

*dusts off LJ/DW* *coughs*!

Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Wow. Um. It's been a while! I aten't dead, as Granny Weatherwax would put it. How are you all? :D I've been spending most of my time on Twitter and Facebook, and LJ/DW ended up really neglected, poor things. Also, I've been (re)watching Buffy and Angel and Bones nonstop for weeks and somehow I'm still not sick of David Boreanaz's face. Mysteries of the universe.

(I feel like I should mention this in no way constitutes a hardcore Buffy/Angel shipping manifesto. I adore Spike. I wish he and Buffy could shag live happily ever after, only not really, because that would take half the fun out of the ship.)

In old news—X-Men: First Class was all kinds of awesome! I've already read a fair deal of fanfiction in the past month, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sweetcherrytree's linkage and the kink memes, but if you have any links, feel free to share!

And how awesomely awesome was The Doctor's Wife? Omg. I still can't get over it. Oh, Neil Gaiman.

In related news, I've added George R. R. Martin to the list of authors I fangirl shamelessly. July 12 can't come soon enough! And Game of Thrones season 2 can't, either. *grumbles* *shakes fist* *hates HBO so much — except for the hating bit, 'cause God, that show is brilliant*

I've also created a tumblr today—not sure why, really, apart from the fact that it makes following all my favourite tumblrs a great deal easier. Drop me a line if you have an account there; I'll be happy to follow you! *grins*

In far more important news, [personal profile] oxymoron's getting to Brazil from Germany! TODAY! She'll be here for the Deathly Hallows premiere and everything! Eeeeee! *EXCITED*
